4-6-2 Battle of Britain Class: The West Country and Battle of Britain Classes, a.k.a. Light Pacifics or Spam Cans, were designed for the Southern Railway by Oliver Bulleid. They were designed to be lighter in weight than their sister locomotives, the Merchant Navy Class, being equally adept at hauling passenger and freight trains. A total of 110 locomotives were constructed between 1945 and 1950. Due to problems with some of the features in Bulleid's design sixty locomotives were rebuilt by British Railways during the late 1950s. This produced a locomotive design highly similar to that of the rebuilt Merchant Navy Class. The classes operated until July 1967. Although most were subsequently scrapped, twenty locomotives survive in preservation.
This is a collection of TMC Custom Finish Locomotives that we make to order, It usually takes between 4-6 Weeks to complete the orders depending on how readily available the donor locomotive is and the nameplates etc. The Products listed in the catagories are by no means all the locomotives we can make We can do hundreds more variations and Classes of locomotives please get in touch if the locomotive your searching for is not listed! If you have any further questions then just get in touch! Kind Regards TMC |
